In its upper and middle reaches of Scepan-Polje to Zvornik, bordered by numerous mountains, makes the occasional, more or less, turn to the north-west or north-east, from which comes the name of the curve Drina. Drina hydropower potential is high.
Damming the river created numerous artificial lakes, as a new element in the continental area. One of these is Lake Perucac, founded by building hydroelectric power plant "Bajina Basta", which is one of our biggest limnological objects. Water is used to produce electricity, as well as for smaller tourist boats.
Special highlight when speaking of the attractiveness goes to Lake Zaovine, which is jagged coastline and functions, unique in our country. When there is not enough water, and increased consumption of electricity, production is offset by water from lake Zaovine in reversible hydroelectric power plant, which is made by our and Japanese experts.
In addition to the dam is settlement Perucac. It has evolved far from a strong karst spring, with which water is fed trout pond and runs 365m long river Vrelo, which makes a waterfall that flows into Drina. Above the springs, dams, hydroelectric power plants and lakes, rocky rise to cut the mountain of Tara, in whose foothills, near Bajina Basta, is located medieval monastery Raca. Church of the Ascension of Christ was founded by King Dragutin. Raca Monastery is the center of cultural manifestation "Dani Race" next to the Drina River.
